The 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque is standard in the SLT and Denali trims. A turbocharged diesel 3.0-liter inline-six with 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque is standard on the AT4 and Denali Ultimate trims.

The 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque is standard in the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X trim. These engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is available on many trims and is standard on the AT4 and AT4X.

Towing & Payload Capacity

With four engine options, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 towing capacities vary. For the maximum capability, the Sierra 1500 must be outfitted with the Max Trailering Package.

The 2.0-liter engine has a maximum towing capacity of 9,500 pounds with rear-wheel drive, a Regular Cab, and a long bed. The 5.3-liter V8 engine can tow up to 11,200 pounds when configured with the Double Cab, standard bed, and rear-wheel drive.

The 6.2-liter V8 engine can tow up to 13,000 pounds when outfitted with four-wheel drive, a Crew Cab, and a short bed. The diesel engine can tow a maximum of 13,200 when it is configured with Double Cab and a standard bed.

Payload capacities also vary based on the engine, cab, bed, and drivetrain. The payload capacity ranges between 1,320 and 2,270 pounds.
