GMC has put out another winner with the 2024 Sierra 1500, available in a double cab, single cab, or four-door crew cab. The Sierra 1500 comes with a broad selection of powertrains and two transmission options. From the base Pro to the top-end Denali Ultimate, the Sierra 1500 offers an abundance of trim levels.

The biggest change to this year’s Sierra 1500 is with its off-road AT4X trim. A 3.0-liter inline-six 305-hp Duramax turbo diesel is now standard on the AT4X. Two wheel choices and additional exterior colors, like Thunderstorm Gray and Downpour Metallic are new this year. Also, the Sierra’s 2.7-liter 310-hp turbocharged engine is now called TurboMaxTM.

2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Towing Capacity and Performance

Every Sierra 1500 trim offers a muscular engine with aggressive towing power. GMC starts with the base level four-cylinder 2.7-liter 310 horsepower engine putting out 420 lb-ft of torque paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The two V-8 options and diesel models all hook up with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Both V-8 trim models offer ample power to tackle any job, with a 5.3-liter 335-hp engine or a 6.2-liter 420-hp engine. The bold 6-cylinder diesel engine puts out an imposing 460 lb-ft of torque. With its maximum towing capacity at 13,200 pounds and a payload capacity of 2,240 pounds, the Sierra 1500 crushes the competition.

Tech and Interior Features of the GMC Sierra 1500

Interior designs in the Sierra 1500 focus on the driver with easy to reach controls and quality materials. Higher trim levels bring it up a notch with desirable features like a power-adjustable steering column and head-up display. Denali Ultimate features upscale leather-covered surfaces and front seats with 16-way power adjustments and massaging functions.

An abundance of standard driver assistance technology comes standard, including forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and more. Available automatic locking rear differential allows for better traction under difficult conditions. And, for pulling trailers, the Denali trim can be equipped with GM’s Super Cruise^® hands-free driving, which allows the driver to actually see through the trailer virtually.
