Are you looking for used trucks for sale? The full-size, light-duty truck market can feel saturated these days. In order to stay in the spotlight, manufacturers have come to realize that a tough frame and solid towing figures alone just won’t cut it anymore.

We’ve seen top truck makers like Ford, Chevy, and GMC continue to work hard to stay ahead of the competition. And in 2019, GMC surprised everyone by redesigning its GMC Sierra 1500 and adding an astonishing number of upgrades.

We remember when the 2019 model first came out. Everyone was talking about it. It was clear GMC had made a major push behind the scenes to make such robust improvements that competitors would be scrambling to keep up. The brand made updates in nearly every area, from performance to utility and comfort to technology.

Below, we’ll show you why any 2019 or newer GMC Sierra 1500 is a terrific buy if you’re in the market for a used truck.

Enhanced Cargo and Bed Design

In 2019, GMC gave us the Sierra 1500 with a cargo box made with carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is famously lightweight and strong, so GMC managed to give users a sturdier place to stash valuables while cutting down overall truck weight. GMC also increased the cargo box’s floor by nearly seven inches in width. So you can fit more gear in there than ever before.

Then, they introduced the GMC MultiPro Tailgate. This six-position tailgate blows the doors open on tailgate possibilities. Position one opens your tailgate in the traditional manner. Position two acts as a primary load stop, keeping long items in place. Position three folds the inner gate down, allowing easy access to your bed.

The MultiPro Tailgate’s next position folds the whole thing down into a full-width step, capable of supporting 375 pounds. Position five acts as a higher load stop, keeping second-tier items in place. And position six converts the inner gate into a convenient work surface.

Advanced Dampers for the Smoothest Ride, and Dynamic Fuel Management for Efficiency

In 2019, GMC also gave us the Adaptive Ride Control feature. It consists of adaptive dampers that read the road, automatically adjusting damping intensity based on conditions. It makes towing and hauling particularly more comfortable and controlled.

The new performance-enhancing perks don’t end there. GMC also released its dynamic fuel management feature for the first time in 2019. This is one of the features that really got people talking.

Dynamic fuel management is not your usual cylinder deactivation system. While traditional systems shut off specific cylinders to optimize efficiency or power when it counts, dynamic fuel management lets your engine act out 17 different patterns between the two and eight cylinders, for some of the most precise efficiency and power optimization ever.

You can even have this technology on the V8 engine, a powertrain category that notoriously suffers in the efficiency department. So you can have it all: maximum power and efficiency.

New Drive Modes for Never-Ending Adventures

For the 2019 model, GMC also gave us some exciting new drive modes, making almost no terrain off limits. The options include Tour (default), Sport, Tow/Haul, and Off-Road. Depending on the mode you choose, your truck will adjust throttle response, transmission shift points, steering response, and stability control accordingly. Sport is going to give you a more thrilling behind-the-wheel feel. Off-Road is going to improve traction and shock absorption on bump trails. Tow/Haul enhances command when you have a large vessel hitched to your truck. Tour mode is going to blend performance and efficiency for daily driving.

A New Comprehensive Camera System for Increased Monitoring

Every truck driver frets about how they’ll see around their big vehicle, as well as their trailer. So in 2019, GMC gave the Sierra 1500 a new 360-degree camera system. This available feature makes it much easier to connect your trailer to your truck, as well as monitor your towed vessel.

A Lighter, Larger Truck

One of the most pleasant surprises for 2019 was that GMC somehow managed to make the Sierra 1500 larger while also making it lighter. In fact, the manufacturer announced that it reduced the truck’s weight by 360 pounds.

GMC did this by switching to aluminum in the hood, tailgate, and doors. And we already know that the carbon fiber cargo box is impressively lightweight, too.

While it made the truck lighter, GMC also made it bigger. The crew cab enjoys a longer wheelbase starting in 2019, which gives rear-seat riders approximately three more inches of legroom compared to 2018. So if you transport adult passengers, or just tall kids, everyone will be more comfortable in the 2019 model.

An All-New Off-Road Trim

This was another update making a splash: the release of the AT4 trim! For off-road enthusiasts, the AT4 has since set the standard for a rugged pickup. With a two-inch factory-installed suspension lift, the AT4 gets you greater ground clearance, so you can say yes to tricky terrain.

This trim also gets you a muscular 6.2L V8 engine for serious power. The standard two-speed AutoTrac transfer case, complete with low-range 4X4 gearing, lets your truck adapt to your conditions. It can easily switch between 2WD and 4X4, depending on the required traction. The low-range 4X4 is going to trade speed for power, perfect for towing large loads or crawling over rocky terrain.

The Hill Descent Control with antilock braking offers controlled descent when you encounter an unexpected hill on your adventures. Plus, the automatic locking rear differential can help get you out of deep, loose terrain—like mud traps! Finally, the trim’s metal skid plates protect the front underbody from damage.

Level Up Your Truck Game in the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

As you can see, GMC really stepped up its game for the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. Competitors must have been sweating. With a lighter build, more rear legroom, and more cargo space, the truck came back easier to maneuver, and more convenient than ever for passenger- or cargo-heavy days.

The performance perks were aplenty, between the new drive modes, the dynamic fuel management, and the advanced damping system. The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 truly is a chameleon that can adapt to your environments, ensuring you get whatever it is you need—be it power or efficiency—at any time.

Naturally, the introduction of the MultiPro Tailgate changed the game. After you’ve experienced it, a traditional tailgate just won’t do. The added AT4 trim drew in off-road enthusiasts, too. And a new 360-degree camera increases confidence when driving and towing.
