Today, we’re providing an overview of the Sierra 1500’s many 2026 personalities. We’ll give you a look at the highlights of each trim and the ideal driver for each model, too.
#1 – The Pro
If it’s a no-frills, solid work truck you’re after, you’re likely to be looking at the Pro. It’s ready for tough tasks and boasts a price tag below $40,000, making it right for economically minded shoppers.[a] GMC keeps costs low here by keeping interior components simple, such as the cloth upholstery, six-speaker sound system, and four-way manually adjustable driver’s seat.
Under the hood of the Pro is the TurboMax engine. Offering 310 hp, 430 lb-ft of torque, and 9,400 lbs of towing abilities, the Pro is more than ready for big days on job sites or towing a boat out to Medicine Lake. At its bed, you’ll find ample utility features, like 12 cargo tie-downs for securing your belongings, and a 12-volt power outlet for plugging in power tools.
The Pro boasts a suite of standard safety features, including lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, and intelligent high beams. As for infotainment, you’ll view navigation and connected smartphone apps (via standard wireless smartphone connectivity) on a seven-inch touchscreen.
#2 – The SLE
The SLE will build on the Pro, offering some comfort and convenience features right for commuters. It steps away from the Pro’s seven-inch touchscreen in favor of a 13.4-inch one, nearly doubling the display area. Plus, it boasts a 12.3-inch driver information center for viewing vehicle and journey stats (the Pro’s center is 3.5 inches).
You’ll see a major seating upgrade here, with a 10-way power-adjustable seat featuring lumbar support. So drivers who don’t fit average dimensions and are sensitive to back pain on long drives will prefer this trim. The heated steering wheel is also a nice touch on cold Golden Valley mornings, as is the heated front passenger seat for your co-pilot.
On the performance front, this trim adds an automatic locking rear differential. This system improves traction on slippery surfaces by locking the rear wheels to force them to spin at the same speed. That’s why we often recommend this model to drivers who spend a lot of time on dirt, sand, or muddy job sites.

#3 – The Elevation
The Elevation builds on the SLE, offering all that it does, plus some style upgrades. Its monochromatic exterior, complete with gloss-black mesh inserts in the grille, creates a modern, minimalist aesthetic that highlights the vehicle’s solid foundation and muscular build.
LED fog lamps not only look cool, but also help you see better in low-light settings. If your work days begin before the sun rises or end after it sets—or you enjoy adventures far away from street lights—those fog lights will make a difference.
Finally, 20-inch gloss-black painted wheels add to the vehicle’s urban aesthetic. That concludes the predominant features of the Elevation, which is essentially an aesthetic-focused trim.
#4 – The SLT
The SLT blends refinement with capability, specifically because it’s the first trim in the lineup where the 5.3L V8 engine is standard. This will increase the engine’s horsepower from 310 hp to 355 hp, making it ideal for drivers who want better acceleration. This engine also increases the towing capacity to 11,200 lbs, allowing you to tow nearly 2,000 more lbs than the turbocharged engine.
On the comfort front, in this trim, your co-pilot gets the 10-way power adjustable seat with lumbar support that was previously reserved for the driver in the SLE and up. So if you often have a front seat rider, this is a favorable feature.
The SLT also features distinct style details, including a chrome grille, chrome door handles, and chrome front and rear bumpers. This creates a mildly vintage look that classic car enthusiasts can appreciate.
#5 – The AT4
Plan on exploring the outer bounds of Golden Valley and enjoying some off-roading? If you know you’ll leave the pavement, but don’t necessarily need a dedicated off-road model, the AT4 is where you’ll look. It has everything the SLT has, making it a good daily driver, while adding some rugged attributes.
The star feature here is the standard Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel engine. This is the first time we find this engine standard in the lineup. Torque and towing are where this powertrain shines. It delivers up to 495 lb-ft of torque and up to 13,300 lbs of towing capacity, the highest of the engine options. If you need or want to tow large trailers, this is the engine for you.
A two-inch factory lift and an off-road suspension make this truck ready for challenging terrain. Plus, Rancho monotube shocks will provide a smooth (enough) ride, even when the ground below you is anything but. A two-speed transfer case helps you adapt to dynamic driving conditions, while underbody skid plates protect your undercarriage from trail debris.
The inside is distinct in its look and feel, thanks to a jet-black aesthetic with Kalahari accents, leather front seats, and front-seat ventilation.
#6 – The AT4X
If you’re after a dedicated off-road truck, that’ll be the AT4X. It contains all that the AT4 has, but turns the adventurous spirit up a few notches. It adds front and rear electronic locking differentials, allowing optimal traction on truly slippery terrain. Multimatic DSSV dampers are ready to absorb shock on bumpy trails.
A steel front bumper with winch capability adds further protection and enables you to pull a fellow off-roader out of a pinch (or receive rescue).
You’ll be riding comfortably in this trim, too, thanks to 16-way power-adjustable front seats, complete with heating, ventilation, and a massage feature. That should come in handy when your muscles are sore from a day of hiking or rock climbing.

#7 – The Denali
Step into luxury; we arrive at the Denali trims. The Denali is the first and builds on the SLT with additional luxury amenities. You’ll return to the 5.3L V8 engine here. Step inside, and you’ll find authentic wood paneling, aluminum trim, and perforated-leather seating surfaces.
The 12-way power front seats with lumbar support should keep you and your co-pilot comfortable on long drives. Note that GMC’s hands-free driving technology, Super Cruise, becomes available on this trim. This can be a big benefit for drivers who regularly commute to nearby Minneapolis.
#8 – The Denali Ultimate
For true luxury lovers, the Denali Ultimate is the trim to choose. It builds on the Denali, adding Super Cruise as standard, and stepping up to the 6.2L V8 engine.
You’ll find unique style details here, like a signature Denali Vader chrome grille and seven-spoke Ultra-Bright 22-inch machined aluminum wheels.
On the inside, you’ll get back to the 16-way power-adjustable seating with a massage feature, as on the AT4X. Plus, you’ll listen to tunes on a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system.
